Ebonie JonesIt was an all action last weekend as Heart of Portsmouth had boxers competing in all areas of the South of England. ABA England Female Champion Ebonie Jones (Springfield School) clocked up another win, as she outpointed Maria Markowska (Hornchurch ABC). Ebonie gave away nearly a year in age but her fast two fisted attacks proved to much for her opponent. Ebonie won on a majority points decision. Jones also was awarded best boxer of the show trophy to add to her victory.

H.O.P boxers, Harley Hodgetts (Portsmouth College) and Henry Eley (Charter Academy) both put in good performances at Fareham ABC boxing show against good opposition.

Hodgetts faced Matthew King (Fareham ABC) after three exciting rounds fought at a blistering pace, Hodgetts ran out a unanimous points win.

Henry Eley boxed to instructions to outpoint the very game Aaron Veal (City of Portsmouth ABC) Eley scoring with clean straight punches to keep ahead of the well matched bout.

The first Women’s Box Series took place at the Next Generation Leisure Centre in Swindon on Saturday. The WBS was the first event of its kind for the Amateur Boxing Association of England (ABAE), allowing female boxers of all ages and levels of ability to enjoy a positive experience of competition.

Leeanne BourneHeart of Portsmouth Boxing Academy entered two boxers Monnie Fard and Leeann Bourne, both boxers put in very good performances. Harringay Cup Gold Medalist Leeann Bourne took on Donna Humphreys (Royal Navy) after three tough rounds Bourne won on a clear point’s decision. Team mate Monnie Fard was against Christine Whittle (Times ABC), boxing at a new weight of 67kg, boxed very well, both boxers exchanged good eye catching punches, Fard lost on a points decision.

The next female event and to carry on the support of female boxing is taking place in the city of Portsmouth, as Heart of Portsmouth boxing Academy host the Regional representative match between Southern Counties female boxers and Western Counties female boxers.

Female boxers from Kent, Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire will represent the Southern Region against the Western Counties on Saturday 28th April 2012 at Heart of Portsmouth Boxing Academy commencing at 6:30pm. Then a month later Hampshire Female boxers will take on various opponents in another exciting all female boxing show on Sunday 13th May 2012 at Gosport ABC
