HOP Boxing Academy had mixed fortunes at the Southern Counties finals. Harry Blick, Joe Hunt, Tyler Hall, Bailey Fowler, Tom Ward all boxed very well and gave a good account of them selves going out of this year’s England Championship on close points decisions of the judges.
Billy Cable (50-52kg, Class A – King Richards) won unanimous against Mark Potter (Guildford). Cable boxed very well, using his fast hands and footwork to out maneuver his opponent before scoring well with counter punches.
Jack Fenton (52-54kg, Class A – St Edmunds) won split against Billy Cole (Sporting Ring). Fenton was up against a very good boxer and used all his skill and experience to win the very well matched bout.
Walid Adenas (Class B, 63-66kg – Priory) won TKO v Paul Cummings (Margate). Walid Adenas who took his time to figure out his tricky opponent in the first round. He then found his range and landed a hard right to the body. Walid stepped in with fast hard punches to the head and body forcing the referee to stop the bout early in the second round. Adenas winning by TKO.
H.O.P Junior Coach Paul Kapnisi was very happy with the boxer’s performance at the weekend and said they all boxed to instructions and did themselves,the club and the city very proud.
H.O.P Head Coach – “Q” Shillingford said all boxers did very well against good opposition, these championships are very tough, as you are competing with boxers from Surrey, Sussex and Kent and getting past the Southern Counties Region round is an ordeal in itself.
