Two local Portsmouth’s boxers have been invited to attend an England ABA development camp in Sheffield. This will be the first in a series of camps designed to build a relationship between the top level boxers in the country and Team England. It will also help prepare the selected athletes for any future international competitions. ABA Senior National Championship Finalist Greg Bridet and Robbie Matthews received call ups last week. They will both spend two days at the Home of the Olympic boxing team, the English Institute of Sports in Sheffield (EIS).
The two boxers were selected for their hard work and ability in reaching this year’s National final. All the champions and finalists will attend and will get time to show there full potential in front of the England and GB Selectors at the EIS.
H.O.P Boss “Q” Shillingford commented, this is a just deserved for the hard work and dedication these two athletes have put into there sport. What they have achieved in such a short period of time is fantastic, Bridet and Matthews reaching the ABA Senior finals and performing the way they did, has now opened the door to greater things, and the two of them are on the brink of England Selection.
The Heart of Portsmouth Boxing Academy, Portsmouth, Hampshire ABA and the Southern Counties ABA are all proud of these two athletes. The clubs throughout the region have nothing but praise for the two boxers. Now they are going to train with the best in the country, we all wish them the best of luck.
