The bout took place on Fri 5th April 2013 in Baleriggan, Ireland.
The H.O.P team consisted of H.O.P Coach – Colin Williams, Boxer – Ebonie Jones (Charter Academy) Team Manager for the event and Ebonies dad – Brian Jones.
Jones having beaten all boxers in England at her weight and the weights above and below, is having to travel further afield to get the experience she needs if she is to move up to the next level. Her last bout was in Sweden, where she lifted the Golden Girl Cup title in January 2013.
H.O.P Coach Colin Williams said – “Jones, set off determined to win, landing heavily in the first round and setting a phenomenal pace. In the second round, Coach Colin Williams changed tactics allowing Jones to use her footwork and boxing skill whilst landing cleanly to increase her score. However in the third round and after another tactical change from Coach Williams, Jones then powered home to victory throwing fast and hurtful combinations at blistering speed to head and body. This secured the unanimous points win of all 5 judges, against an opponent with over 40 bouts and three all Ireland national titles, going in. It was a long way to go for a bout, but was well worth it. Jones was fit, strong and listened to what she was told, Jones has worked hard in the gym and come on so well over the last two years, her performance was second to none.”
H.O.P Boss “Q” Shillingford said, Jones’ commitment and dedication can not be faltered. By travelling all that way giving away experience, height, reach and home town advantage. You have to understand the Irish love there boxing and tried to warn us what we were up against, Ebonie took the whole situation in her stride and the whole club is very proud of her.
“Q” concluded – Jones’ record is 13 won 12, with two England titles and the Golden Girl Cup title all in just two years, since joining the club. Ebonie and other members of the club are now busy training for the South of England squad training session on Sunday 12th May 2013
Five H.O.P Female boxers will be attending the England squad training and looking to show the England selectors their potential for the next level: Tilly Evans, Charlie Southam, Paris Dunford, Ebonie Jones and Leeanne Bourne.
