The boxing show was started with three very entertaining skills bout;
Harry Brown (H.O.P) was first of the H.O.P trio to complete his excellent display of boxing, in his skills bout against Oliver Boyce (Downend ABC) then Oliver Fenton against John Varney (Swindon ABC) and finally Petey Jarvie against Carson Morris (Downend ABC).
First Bout of the evening saw Tom Tovey (Downend ABC) V Jack Fenton (H.O.P) Fenton put on a good performance against a very tough character, using his effective left jab to gain a point’s win.
The much waited bout with H.O.P England Champion Ebonie Jones against Maria Markowska (Hornchurch ABC) lived up to expectations with both girls unloading at a furious pace. Jones’s relentless attacks to head and body took its toll on the very equipped Markowsa, as Jones won on a unanimous point’s decision.
H.O.P’s Joe Hunt put in a back to form performance using his reach advantage very well, with long effective jabs followed up with def rear hands against Jordan Wall (Swindon ABC). Hunt won on a points win.
Ryan Cayford won his H.O.P debut bout against Eddy Turner (Chard ABC). Cayford used his southpaw stance and boxing skills to his advantage to outbox his very capable opponent.
Show closer went down to the wire, when another H.O.P debutant in Jack Budd against Jomel Cabilogan (Downend ABC). Budd controlled the first round very well with his jab; the second round was a close affair with Budd seeming to keep the edge. Typically the rugged non stop style of Cabilogan could have clawed it back with his last round surge but Budd held on to win a very close decision of the judges.
HOP Boss Q Shillingford was delighted with the event and especially how well all the boxers performed. The bouts were great, all well matched; I know we won a lot of the bouts however the match making was very good and the performances of all the youngsters involved was a tribute to the ABA Coaches and clubs. A special mention to the Wolverdean club and Devizes Head coach Paul Wilkins for all the effort in organizing the show and running the event on the night.
Brandon Thomson v Danny Brown (Basingstoke ABC)
Ross Byrne (Downend ABC) V Vinnie Mills (Tadley ABC)
