Kids at Summer Camp 2012Heart of Portsmouth Boxing Academy are running there popular school holiday boxing camp for the cities youngsters over the school 6 week holidays. Charter Sports Centre, Greetham street is also the base for the very popular Heart of Portsmouth Boxing Academy in the city centre.The programme has been organized in Partnership with the city council, Parkwood and the Amateur Boxing Association of England.

Last week 18 young people passed the ABA Preliminary Award and another 10 Participants passed at different stages of the awards programme.

The H.O.P Summer Boxing Camp is a programme where young people from the age of 5-16yrs, can learn the basics of Amateur Boxing in a fun and recreational environment.

The GB National Awards is run in 6 parts, preliminary, standard, bronze, silver, gold and Platinum. All the youngsters will now move forward to their relevant level of the boxing awards programme this week, as they work their way through the awards over the six weeks school holiday.

The programme which Heart of Portsmouth Boxing Academy run every school holiday has proved very popular and very effective as lots of county, regional and even national champions have emerged from the national boxing awards programme.

National CYP Boxing Champion Mateusz Ziolkowski was introduced to boxing via the non contact boxing awards programme 4 years ago and now he is the reigning CYP National Champion. Other city boxing stars such as Ashleigh Pond (GB development team), Natasha Cole (National Champion), Tilly Evans (National Champion), Joe Hunt (National Champion), and the talented Jack Featherstone, Duane Foster, and Robbie Patterson were all introduced to boxing from the GB National Boxing Awards scheme.

H.O.P Boss “Q” Shillingford explained the GB Boxing Awards programme is a great way to engage youngsters into the sport of boxing in a fun and recreational environment. Hopefully after the school holidays the youngsters would have had a good introduction to boxing and then they can join a local boxing club in there area of the city.

We have lots of talent in the gym and a lot of stars in the making who have been discovered via the GB National boxing awards programme.

H.O.P would also like to thank Portsmouth MP Penny Mordaunt, who awarded all the youngsters there medals, books and certificates on the first of the presentation day.

“Q” added “We have had a really enjoyable two week’s and are now ready to progress the young people to the next stage of the GB Boxing Awards programme.”
