HOP coaches were back in action the next day (Sunday 31st October) in Wales as they took both their boxers Michael Ballingall and Kieran Rodden for the Semi Finals of the CYP National Championships. First in was Kieran Rodden at 52kg. Rodden’s attacked with explosive and accurate punches to head and body against the tall and rangy Tom Wilson (Adur District ABC) Rodden was leading 5 – 2 after the first round, more of the same in the second round put the score 11 – 3 and after a very strong last round, Rodden won the bout 22 – 4 points of the judges and booked his place into the National Final.

Michael Ballingall was always up against it as he faced England International boxer Jordan Gill (Chatterist ABC). Michael boxed at a blistering pace to keep his very experienced opponent under control, after the first round the score was 5 – 3 to Ballingall, a close second round saw both boxers landing fast and accurate punches, the score swayed to Gill’s favor 13 – 11. Going into the third round there was nothing in it, both boxers tired but boxing well, the bout finished 16 – 14 against Ballingall. This was a fantastic experience and achievement for both HOP boxers and the Academy are very proud of them both.

Head coach of HOP junior boxer’s Paul Kapnisi was delighted with all the boxers’ performance and commented “The Junior squad is developing nicely. They are listening to what they are told in the corner and boxing to instructions”.

HOP Boss “Q” Shillingford said “This is our second competitive year as a boxing club and the coaches who voluntarily give up there time to teach/coach people how to box and the club volunteers are all doing an excellent job.
