H.O.P ever developing Heavyweight Greg Bridet has been selected to box for England v France on Thursday 2nd October 2014 at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.
The GB Team boxer who had a run of bad luck with controversial decision going out of last year’s Elite Championship and then badly injuring his knuckle on his right hand (which needed an operation and 10 weeks to repair) is now raring to go. Explained head coach of Heart of Portsmouth Boxing Academy “Q” Shillingford.
“Q” explained, Greg has been disappointed with recent events last season, but he is a tough cookie and we knew Greg would bounce back. Bridet got the all clear from his Team GB Boxing doctors 5 weeks ago and has been relentless in his training since.
Bridet who recently returned from a 10 day boxing camp in Kazakstan near China, was training with some of the best boxers in the world. Team GB the Chinese and the boxers from Kazaghstan all sparred and trained together for a week.
Kazakstan is one of the lead nations in boxing in the world.
Now Bridet has been preparing for the International bout with full time training with the GB Podium Team at the Home of Team GB Boxing, EIS Sheffield.
The GB Podium Squad is full time Monday to Friday and the athletes train 3 to 4 times a day said Coach Shillingford. Bridet has been prepared very well, we still trained Greg throughout his injury working on his speed and stamina and a lot of work with his lead jab and lead hook.
Bridet is a determined athlete who puts everything into his training and grasps opportunities with both hands. He had a great time in kazakstan and learnt a lot whilst mixing with different boxers from other countries and two weeks full time training with the Podium team is great, the whole club is behind him to do well.
“Greg Bridet knows what he has to do and will not disappoint”.
