Portsmouth City Summer Boxing Camp 2009The Portsmouth City Summer Boxing Camp was herald a great success by Hampshire and Isle of Wight ABA President, Mr David Rogers, The Boxing Camp proved to be very popular and we saw many young people having fun, keeping fit and making new friends whilst learning the art of Amateur Boxing. The National Boxing Awards is a great tool to engage and introduce youngsters to the sport of Amateur Boxing. We have had over 80 young people between the age of 5 yrs and 16 yrs, throughout the Summer Holiday. The Boxing Coaches and Tutors worked very hard to get the students through the ABA of England Boxing Awards and we have promoted the sport in a very positive way in the City.

This is the second Summer Boxing Camp the Heart of Portsmouth Boxing Academy has held and the numbers are growing. Portsmouth has the National Boxing Awards in most Schools in the Portsmouth and even on the school curriculum in a few; we are excited to see how the boxing will develop this season in the City.

The ABA Boxing Tutors/ Coaches have done a fantastic job, in delivery of the National Boxing Awards, the Summer Camp was set for 4 weeks of the 6 week school break, but due to demand we will be looking to run the National Awards programme over the 6 week summer break next year, the take up for the boxing awards scheme has been unbelievable.

The programme was a joint venture with “Heart of Portsmouth Boxing Academy” and Portsmouth Community Initiative Programme (CIP).

The Portsmouth City Summer Boxing Camp was organised by ABA of England Advanced Coach and Heart of Portsmouth Boxing Academy Boss “Q” Shillingford. “The young people are engaged in a physical and fun activity over the summer break whilst working towards a goal and achieving. That is what we want and what they want, boxing training is a great way to burn up youthful energy and aggression”.
