The GB Boxing Awards, Booklets, Medals and Certificates were presented by The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Crime Commissioner Simon Hayes and Manager of the Portsmouth Youth Offending Team Jon Gardiner.
Simon Hayes commented “This is fantastic for the cities young people, today I have seen lots of young people of all ages having lots of fun and demonstrating their boxing skills they have learnt already, early into the summer break. The set up and boxing programme is fantastic at HOP and I am even more impressed with the young Boxing Tutors teaching the awards under the supervision of the Academy Coaches. To see 14/16 yr olds teaching the GB National boxing awards programme on their summer break to their piers and acting as good role models is very beneficial to the city and most of all to them as individuals.
Portsmouth Youth Offending Team Manager Jon Gardiner added “keeping the young people engaged in sport whilst on school break is just what they need, and the city is fully behind the Heart of Portsmouth Boxing Academy and its efforts to promote Boxing in this fun and recreational way.
Heart of Portsmouth Academy Coach and gym manager Andrew Bradford said “We have had a really enjoyable 3 weeks and are now ready to progress the young people to the next stage”. They are all doing really well, and lots of them have expressed interest in keeping up their boxing training after the school holidays, which again is good for the young person and the boxing academy.
