Robbie Matthews with HOP Senior CoachesPortsmouth’s boxing hero, Robbie Matthews moves forward to compete in this years Senior ABA’s National Semi Final on Saturday 30th April at Dagenham Park School, School Road, Barking, Essex, RM10 9QH. Robbie takes on one of the countries top boxing club star’s Brett Beadon (Repton ABC). The H.O.P camp is not phased by the opponent. Head coach of the HOP Senior boxers Colin Williams said; Matthews is in great shape, we have worked hard with him for the build up of these championships. Robbie Williams will give everything and more, we are all looking forward to the bout, especially Robbie.

Heart of Portsmouth Boxing Academy are celebrating getting another HOP boxer to a National final this year, after Josh Pritchard’s was awarded a walkover at the semi final stage of the championships. Pritchard’s will now face the winner of National CYP Champion Jack Daniel (Kelly’s ABC) or England International Joe Mosopha (Middleborough ABC) on Saturday 21st May 2011.

Head coach “Q” shillingford said, Robbie’s preps for this event has been second to none, he has been all over the country sparring and we have taken him to the spar the best boxers in the country. Robbie as always will do his best.

Josh Pritchard“Josh Pritchard is very disappointed not having to compete, but sometimes in a championship if no one has entered in that weight group form a different region, then when the tournament regions meet, and then there is no one to box”. Josh will have a tough bout in the final; however he has already beaten a top level boxer in the JABA National 1/4 final stages of the championship and knows what he has to do, and the HOP coaches will have him ready for his National Final bout. Robbie and Josh are very determined young men, with a lot to offer amateur boxing, there commitment and dedication towards boxing and the this years Boxing Championships has been terrific and the H.O.P coaches are doing a great job with them.
