Head coach of the HOP Senior boxers Colin Williams was delighted with Joey’s performance, “Joey had to box twice to win his Southern Counties Middleweight Title explained Williams, the first bout was against Titchfields ABC rugged Michael Binstead, the bout was very tough, with action all the way but Joey’s fitness and strength pulled him through to a unanimous decision of the judges. The second bout and Regional Final, Pearce faced a very tall order at 6ft 6 inches Bryce Goodridge from Basingstoke, Joey had to work hard from the off, pressurizing Goodridge to try and get passed his enormous reach advantage, in the third the pressure was all to much for the Basingstoke boxer and Pearce speed and fitness prevailed as he landed with pain seeking hooks and jabs to head and body to ensure his Regional title and book his place in to the National 1/4 Finals on Saturday 5th December 2009.
