The Awesome Foursome
Heart of Portsmouth Boxing Academy was celebrating again this weekend after Waleed Adenas was awarded England Boxing Youth Southern Counties Champion after his opponent failed to turn up. Waleed Adenas who has already reached this year’s NABC National Final and has been tipped to do very well in the sport was very disappointed after he found out that his opponent was not turning up.
Waleed Adenas now joins the his team mates England International Ivy-Jane Smith and this year’s novice national champion Taylor Smith and the talented Bailey Fowler who has already dispatched NABC Champion Joe Butler out of this year’s England Youth National Championships.
The 4 boxers will now travel to Sheffield to compete in the National quarter finals, semifinals and National final over three days starting on Friday 12th, Sat 13th and Sunday 14th February 2016.
HOP head junior coach Paul Kapnisi is very proud of the boxer’s efforts and feels all the hard work over the years in the sport is now beginning to pay off for the talented HOP squad.
HOP Head Coach “Q” Shillingford added – the boxers have reached this far in the tournament due to their hard work and commitment to the sport of boxing. These young people are in and out of the gym all week, even over Christmas and New Year. Also having the added factor of all the dedicated coaches at the club who voluntarily train and coach the boxers every week, so that they can achieve their goals/dreams. HOP had 6 boxers in this year’s national youth championship – Both Billy Cable and Tyler Hall went out of the championship after close points decisions against International and national champions. The level of Boxing in the city is on the rise, we are breaking all records with the amount of young people reaching final stages in national championships. The sport is on the increase in Portsmouth and the country is realizing that Portsmouth Boxing is a force to be reckoned with.
“The boxers will now compete against the best boxers the country has, they will face national champions and International athletes. The Bar has just been lifted.”
